Visitation, Funeral Set for Beverly's ​Colleen O'Shea

The mother of 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea died earlier this week. Her services began on Thursday and continue on Friday.

Colleen O’Shea, the mother of 19th Ward Ald. Matt O’Shea, is being remembered by friends and loved ones this week as a warm, welcoming and kind woman who made wearing many hats “look easy."

“My mother was the most loving person I’ve ever known. She was kind to everyone,” Matt O’Shea said in a Beverly Review article. “Her whole life was looking out for others, not only for her family, but all her friends and loved ones.”

The longtime Beverly resident died at age 79 on Sunday, July 31, from health complications, the story said. Her visitation is set for Thursday, Aug. 4 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at Christ the King and interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

O'Shea and her high school sweetheart-turned husband, Dan, recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. The two raised their four children in the 9000 block of South Leavitt Street.

Colleen M. O’Shea

Colleen M. O'Shea, 79, died July 31, 2016.

She was the beloved wife of Daniel for 57 years and the loving mother of Annie Laurie, Matthew (Cara); Michael; Maura (Joseph) McCarthy; and the late Baby Daniel.

O'Shea was also the proud grandma of Brigid, Patrick, Eileen, Cate, and Colleen; devoted daughter of the late Capt. William, C.P.D. and Lenore Hallinan Smith. She was the dear sister of Maura Smith, Rosemary Garrett, and the late Joyce Stapleton and Capt. William C. Smith, U.S.N.; as well as the fond sister-in-law of Mary Stiemann, Kay McNamara, and the late Joan Baldwin and Jeremiah O’Shea.

Colleen was loved by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was an 1950 alumna of St. Sabina Grammar School and a 1954 alumna of Longwood Academy of Our Lady

Memorials should be made to LCM Hospice, 2800 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park.
