Bolingbrook Man Could Face 3 to 14 Years in Prison After Fatal Crash
Jay Cox, 35, of Bolingbrook, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol in the accident that killed Efren Garcia, 30, of Bolingbrook.

The Bolingbrook man charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic offenses in connection with a crash last weekend that took the life of another Bolingbrook man faces three to 14 years in prison if convicted.
Jay Cox, 35, of 251 Meadowbrook Drive, will be formally charged today in Will County court with two counts of aggravated DUI after police said the Jeep he was driving Friday collided with a Nissan driven by Efren Garcia, 30, at around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Rockhurst Road onto Monterey Drive.
The judge would have leeway to sentence Cox to probation, Will County State’s Attorney spokesman Chuck Pelkie said.

"In this type of case, prison is the presumed sentence, although it is an option for the judge to consider extraordinary circumstances to allow a defendant on probation," he said.
Garcia, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was attempting to turn onto Monterey when he was struck. The Jeep SUV then rolled over and came to rest on its roof, police said. Police said Garcia was pinned in his car, and pronounced dead at the scene.

Cox was taken to Bolingbrook Adventist Hospital, where he was treated and released. He was later charged with aggravated drunken driving and improper lane use, police said.
He was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, and is being held on $50,000 bond in Will County Jail.
A funeral Mass for Garcia was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel's Parish in Chicago. A blog has been set up in his honor.
