Bolingbrook Man Given Eight Years in Prison for Attempted Murder

Fred Spangenberg, 54, on Tuesday admitted to trying to kill his wife in June.

The man that attempted to kill his wife in June was sentenced to eight years in prison for stabbing his wife during an argument, The Herald-News reported Tuesday.

Fred Spangenberg, 54, of the 100 block of Fairwood Drive, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery before Judge Richard Schoenstedt, the report said. 

Spangenberg was hospitalized on June 7 for .

Spangenberg was later released form the hospital's care and soon thereafter taken into custody.

According to a report, police responded to the the Spangenberg's home on June 7 at 6:40 a.m., after Spangenburg’s wife reported she had been stabbed by Fred Spangenberg and had lost a substantial amount of blood.

The wife told police Spangenberg had left in a minivan.

After several agencies were contacted regarding Spangenberg’s possible destination, police learned he had crashed his car while driving southbound on Interstate 55 near the Route 30 exit in a single car rollover accident.

Spangenberg also admitted to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of cannabis, the report said.
