Bolingbrook Police To Crack Down On Texting Drivers During April
A campaign being run as part of Distracted Driver Awareness month will place more emphasis statewide on drivers who are on their phones.
BOLINGBROOK, IL —Bolingbrook residents will notice an increased police presence over the next month as officers will be on the lookout for drivers who are paying more attention to their phones than to the road.
The Bolingbrook Police Department announced on Wednesday that it will be one of more than 200 departments across Illinois that are participating in the “Drop It And Drive” campaign as Distracted Driver Awareness Month.
Police officials warn that drivers who text while operating their vehicles put everyone on the road at risk by distracting a driver visually, manually, and cognitively, the police department said in a news release.

During Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the Bolingbrook Police Department is working to increase awareness of these dangers and encourage all motorists to give driving their full attention.
At a time when traffic fatalities are on the rise in Illinois and across the country, the Bolingbrook Police Department is committed to reducing the traffic crashes caused by distractions like texting or talking on a cell phone, police officials said.

Local drivers should expect to see increased patrols and enforcement zones during the entire month of April. Officers will be on alert for drivers who text or use their cell phones while driving. The campaign is being funded with federal money issued through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
