Bolingbrook Police Plane Pull Team Raises $2,200 For Special Olympics

The team, captained by Police Chief Mike Rompa, pulled an aircraft 12 feet in just less than 5 seconds in an ultimate tug-of-war event.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — In what was billed as the ultimate tug-of-war, a team sponsored by Bolingbrook officials and made up of Bolingbrook police officers raised more than $2,000 for Special Olympics by pulling a plane over the weekend in the name of a good cause.

The team, which was led by captain and Bolingbrook Police Chief Mike Rompa, pulled the aircraft 12 feet in 4.986 seconds on Saturday at Lewis University in Romeoville. The Bolingbrook Police Department team was supported by Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta along with Village Trustee Michael Carpanzano.

The effort led to the team making a donation of $2,200 to the Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Illinois is a not-for-profit organization offering year-round training and competition in 18 sports for more than 23,100 athletes with intellectual disabilities and 13,000 Young Athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities, according to a news release.

Special Olympics transforms the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, allowing them to realize their full potential in sports and in life. Special Olympics programs enhance physical fitness, motor skills, self-confidence, and social skills and encourage family and community support.
