Bolingbrook Resident, Army Veteran Honored at Chicago Bulls Game

Shane Smart was honored at the Jan. 25 Chicago Bulls game for his military service and accomplishments.

resident and United States Army veteran Shane Smart who was honored at the Jan. 25 Chicago Bulls game for his military service and accomplishments.

Smart joined the military shortly after the invasion of Iraq in April 2003. He served as a health care specialist in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2007-2008, performing duties that provided emergency field care and supported troops' medical needs. He was deployed with the 327th Military Police Battalion Higher Headquarter Company stationed out of Arlington Heights.

Smart was honored beside Army specialist Dallas Davis from Chicago. Both are BMO Harris Bank employees who are active members of the bank's Veteran Advisory Council. The Veterans Advisory Council enriches BMO Financial Group through the support, development and promotion of the unique talents of its military veterans.

Honorary Captains are recognized during the opening ceremony of the Chicago Bulls game. After meeting the referees and the captains for the Bulls and opposing team during the "Honorary Captains Meeting," the Honorary Captains are featured on the United Center's scoreboard, recognized for their military service. The Captains then participate in the singing of the National Anthem.
