Hey canine volunteers! We need more of you to become dog handlers at our outings into the community. The shifts are very short, there's no cleaning or walking involved, ;) and it's a great way to share your HHAS pride with the community!

For more information, contact the organization by calling 630-378-4208.

administrators have set the high school's homecoming week for Sept. 12-17. “Mardi Gras, Raider-style”—the week's theme—will culminate with a pep rally and football game on Sept. 16 and the Homecoming Dance on Sept. 17.

The entire week will be “spirit week” with a different theme every day. Monday is Tacky Day. Tuesday is Character Day. Wednesday is Nerd Day. Thursday is Twin Day. And Friday is Spirit Day.

The annual Powder puff football game will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 in the BHS football stadium. Admission is $1. Fans bringing a canned food donation will be admitted free. All money collected and food donated will go to the Bolingbrook Food Pantry.

The Raiders tackle Joliet West in Friday night’s football game with sophomores scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday night’s dance will be from 7 to 10 p.m. in the BHS fieldhouse. AudioWest Entertainment will be featured. 4. Today is National Trail Mix Day

Didn't know today was National Trail Mix Day. It's OK. We didn't either.

But according to The Food Channel's website, it is.

Here are a few fun facts about Trail Mix, courtesy of The Food Channel:

  • Some claim that trail mix was first invented in 1968 by two California surfers who blended peanuts and raisins together for an energy snack. (What a boss idea, dude.)
  • But the first literary mention of trail mix dates back to Jack Kerouac’s 1958 novel The Dharma Bums where the two main characters describe their planned meals in their preparation for a hiking trip. (That’s cool, daddy-o.)
  • Trail Mix made news this year when Sony Pictures Entertainment suggested trail mix along with other better-for-you foods for movie theater concession stands instead of candy. (Let’s all go to the lobby…let’s all go to the lobby…)
  • Trail Mix has many names including ‘GORP’ which stands for ‘good old raisins and peanuts’ and ‘scroggin’ in New Zealand and Australia. (G’day, mate, how 'bout some GORP?)
