Five Things to Know Today: Sept. 15

1. Tomorrow is Mexican Independence Day!

As you can tell by the headline, tomorrow (Sept. 16) is Mexican Independence Day—or Grito de Dolores. But and the are getting a head start on the celebration. 

WGN-TV's "Around Town" will be broadcasting live from beginning at 7 a.m. WGN's Ana Belaval will talk with Juan Luis Gonzales, the restaurant's executive chef about his Mexican dishes and more. You can also learn about the restaurant's special Pink Margarita benefit, which is coming in October.

Meanwhile, the  will be holding a special Mexican Independence Day celebration from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

2. Humane Haven Animal Shelter's Garage Sale is Nearing

We all love garage sales, especially when the proceeds go to benefit a good cause.

The animal shelter's annual garage sale is this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of .

Money raised will be used to provide medical care, food and other items needed for Humane Haven’s dogs and cats.

To donate items to the sale, you can drop off items between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the day of the sale. The shelter asks that all items be clean and in good, usable condition.

3. NASCAR Driver Bobby Labonte to Visit Meijer

Are you a NASCAR fan? 

If so, now's your chance to meet and talk to NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte at the located at 755 E. Boughton Rd.

4. We Want to Feature Your Whiz Kid

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree.

Each week, Bolingbrook Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual  kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

5. Just for Teens: Skin Care and Makeup Class at Fountaindale

Join us on Thrs, September 15, in the Vortex!   Learn about proper skin care and makeup application-just for teens (grades 9-12) and just in time for Homecoming or other special events.   Event is free, so grab a girlfriend and stop by.  RSVP to Donna at (630) 336-9858 or sign up at the Library.   Seating is limited to 15. 

The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
