Valley View employs more than 250 staff members in its transportation department, which officials estimate will cost the school district more than $12 million in 2012-13.

That figure includes $3,324,720 for vehicle expenses, $8,593,660 for labor expenses and $466,236 for operational expenses.

Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Gary Grizaffi said the district could save more than $1 million if it were to seek a private company to run its transportation system.
