Quarry Project Denied By Will County Planning And Zoning Commission

The project will next be discussed at the Will County Land Use and Development Committee on Oct. 8.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Will County planning and zoning commission voted unanimously to deny a rezoning and special use permits for a proposed quarry development, the Village of Bolingbrook shared on its Facebook.

The county meeting was held on Tuesday.

Although the project was denied at the meeting, the matter will still go in front of the Will County Land Use and Development Committee on Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Will County Board room, 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet.

That committee could approve or deny the project, and the matter would then go in front of the Will County Board on Oct. 17.

In September, the Bolingbrook Village Board filed an objection and stated its opposition to the proposed industrial rezoning and special use permits for a quarry at the southeast corner of Reagan Boulevard and Essington Road. The property is not in Bolingbrook's jurisdiction, but is just outside its borders.

The owners of the nearby quarry have submitted an application to the county to rezone a portion of the property. The owners are also seeking special use permits to expand the current quarry operations to the property to the south.

Because of the resolution from Bolingbrook, the County Board would need a 3/4 super-majority instead of a simple majority vote.
