‘Snow’ Much Fun Planned for Park District’s Second Annual Winterfest
Winterfest runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center.

After the success of last year’s inaugural Winterfest, the is bringing back the event this year.
About 600 people attended the 2011 celebration, said Dan Leahy, marketing and communications manager for the Bolingbrook Park District.
“We were pleasantly surprised at last year’s attendance,” he said. “Timing was great however, as it was the weekend after the crazy snowfall and warmed up nicely. Everyone had been locked in and I think they were looking for a reason to get out.”

“We already had events in the other seasons, and were looking for a way to showcase Hidden Oaks Nature Center, (which) opened in 2009,” Leahy said. “(Winterfest) seemed like a natural fit, especially when we started brainstorming the types of activities we could feature there.”

Saturday's Winterfest activities will include a snowshoe hike, sled dogs, crafts and more.
While some of the events could be affected by a lack of snow, Leahy isn’t worried.
“We think there’s enough planned to create a few smiles,” he said.
