BOLINGBROOK, IL — Steinhafels Furniture has been in business since 1934 but has only recently begun expanding its operation from its Wisconsin roots to the greater Chicago area.

But based on the success the retailer has seen in the region since opening store locations, the company announced on Wednesday that it will continue to expand, including with a state-of-the-art distribution center that will be constructed in Bolingbrook to help service all of its greater Chicago stores.

The 116,000-square-foot facility will be located at 999 Belle Lane and will be a modern merchandise pick-up location for all of the Steinhafels regional store locations. The company said that the site will provide customers with a fast and easy pick-up experience while the facility will also be the launch point for the company’s Chicagoland delivery stops.

With the addition of the distribution center, customers using the delivery system will see more efficient delivery services and improve the speed and availability of those services, the company said in a news release.

“This new distribution center will expand us further into Illinois, enhancing our reach, speed, and availability for all of our stores, while helping us control operational expenses to serve our Illinois customers.” Steinhafels Vice President of Operations John Haas said in a news release.

Steinhafels anticipates adding up to 50 new associates at the location and will be announcing our leadership for our Bolingbrook operation soon. The current plan is to open the new facility in the fall of 2023.

In an email to Patch on Wednesday afternoon, Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta said that Steinhafels will take over 116,800 square feet of the 220,000 square-foot building that is currently under construction at 999 Belle Ln.

"We are always very excited when companies choose Bolingbrook as their new home and look forward to officially welcoming Steinhafels Furniture to our amazing community," the mayor said in the email.

Wednesday's announcement of the building of the distribution center comes on the heels of the retailer announcing that it will open its fourth and fifth Chicago-area stores in Harwood Heights and Orland Park. Steinhafels officials said earlier this week that they hope to make Orland Park and the southwest suburbs the state's Furniture Row based on the number of retail options there are for home furnishings.

“Adding a Steinhafels distribution center and new furniture and mattress stores in Harwood Heights and Orland Park will continue our goal to be the market leader in furniture and mattresses in Illinois,” Steinhafels President Andrew Steinhafel said in the release.
