As a freshman, the 5-foot-6 point guard started in the Lady Vols' first game of the season— a feat accomplished by just 13 other Lady Vols in the school's history.

According to Tennessee's athletic department's website, head coach Pat Summit was so convinced of Massengale's talent and frustrated by a lack of a bona fide point guard last season that she dubbed Massengale a starter back in March.
In the Lady Vols' 89-57 season-opening win over Pepperdine, Massengale logged 20 minutes, dished five assists, nabbed two steals and scored two points.
"Massengale was just an exceptional point guard," said associate head coach Holly Warlick. "She runs the show, and when she's in, we seem to have a little calmness to us."
