• Buffalo Grove Woman Marks 400 Blood, Platelet Donations (patch.com) — A longtime Buffalo Grove resident has just reached an impressive milestone, being honored for her 400th blood and platelet donation at the Vitalant donor center in Arlington Heights. Nancy Prater has been donating since 1971, inspired by a friend’s family medical crisis, and she’s urging neighbors to consider giving blood or platelets, especially as hospitals face ongoing need during the holidays. 
• Illinois' compact fluorescent bulb ban begins to take effect (washingtonexaminer.com) — A new Illinois law taking effect today bans most compact fluorescent light bulbs, gradually phasing out additional fluorescent types by 2027, which will affect Buffalo Grove residents along with the rest of the state. State Sen. Adriane Johnson of Buffalo Grove backed the measure, citing health risks from mercury, while other lawmakers and candidates stress balancing environmental goals with costs for households and small businesses.
