Schools Closing Wednesday Due To Winter Storm In Buffalo Grove Area

The first major winter storm of the season could bring 6 inches or more of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — With the first major winter storm of the season set to hit Chicagoland Wednesday, a number of Buffalo Grove area schools have decided to close for the day.

According to Emergency Closing Center, among the local schools closing are the following:

  • Buffalo Grove High School
  • District 21 (Wheeling) closed with e-learning
  • Wheeling High School

The storm is predicted to bring at least 6 inches or more of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Hazardous travel conditions, especially during the afternoon and evening commute, are likely.

The weather service has issued a winter storm watch for Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston, Cook and Will counties, starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday until 3 a.m. on Thursday. The watch states that heavy snow is possible, with snowfall rates of an inch per hour.
