Thornton's Gas Station Standoff: Chicago Man, 28, Arrested
Illinois State Police had exits blocked in both directions Sunday morning.
CHANNAHON, IL — Route 6 was closed at I-55, with a large police presence at the nearby Thornton's gas station, just after 10 a.m. Sunday as Channahon police investigated a domestic violence incident that ended with the arrest of a 28-year-old Chicago man.
By mid-morning, Channahon police arrested Keyjuan Parker and his charges are pending, police said. Parker was taken to the St. Joe's hospital to be evaluated by doctors.
At 9:11 a.m., Channahon police learned of a domestic violence incident in progress at the Thornton's gas station after callers saw a man punching a woman in the face and the woman was screaming as the man continued to hit her, police said.

As police arrived, the suspect's car got stuck in the snow as it drove through the gas station property between the convenience store and back parking lot for semis, police said.
The woman escaped to safety and Parker retreated inside his car and refused to surrender to police, authorities said.

Channahon police put the immediate area on a lockdown, and the Illinois State Police had exits closed in both directions of Route 6.
About a dozen police vehicles were seen in the area.
By 10:25 a.m., Parker surrendered peacefully at the Thornton's station, police said.
By 11:30 a.m., the Thornton's was reopened to customers, and Route 6 was re-opened in both directions at I-55.
