14-Year-Old Fatally Shot, 4 Others Wounded In Shootout With Cops: CPD
The 14-year-old was shot in the chest after police said two groups of people were firing guns at one another before police returned fire.

CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy is dead and several other people — including three Chicago Police officers – were injured during a shootout between two groups of people on Thursday night in the city’s Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
Police officials characterized the incident as an officer-involved shooting in which at least four people were hit by gunfire, police said. Police said the shooting, which killed the 14-year-old boy, took place in the 4200 block of South Wells.
All four people hit by gunfire were civilians, police said. The shooting took place at 8:30 p.m. when police responded to a report that two groups of people were firing at one another. Officers arrived to find several people wounded, police said Police said that one suspect had a gun and began firing at police officers, authorities said. Police then returned fire once officers were shot at, according to a CPD news release.

Police said that the suspect was hit in the leg and began to run but was taken into custody a short time later.
The 14-year-old boy died at University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was reported in good condition, police said.

A 19-year-old man remains in critical condition at University of Chicago Medical Center after he was shot in the chest and in the leg, police said. A 21-year-old woman was also taken to a Chicago hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.
Police did not indicate a motive for the two groups of people firing guns at one another. Two guns were recovered at the scene by Chicago Police. The officers were taken to local hospitals for observation but were not shot, police said.
The investigation is being handed by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, which characterized the incident as an officer-involved shooting. The officers involved have been placed on routine administrative duties.
