'Violence Prevails' As 2 Gunned Down At Father's Day Gathering In Chicago: Reports

It was "a fine day and people were just enjoying their family activity, but violence prevails in this city," Chicago police commander says.

CHICAGO, IL — Five people were shot, including two who were two killed, after a car pulled up to a crowd at a Father's Day gathering on the South Side of Chicago and a gunman inside opened fire on Sunday night, ABC 7 reported.

There was a fight and dozens of shots rang out an annual neighborhood event in the Roseland neighborhood, near West 99th Street and South Princeton Avenue, at around 8 p.m., Chicago told the outlet at a news conference.

Two men, including 23-year-old Brian Ross of Chicago, who was shot in his neck, and a 37-year-old who was shot in his head, died from their injuries, police said.

The three other male victims, including a 19-, 25-, and a 27-year-old, were hospitalized, Fox 5 reported.

"It's unfortunate today that this occurred because it's a fine day and people were just enjoying their family activity, but violence prevails in the city," Commander Tyrone Pendarvis told the outlets, adding, "So unfortunately, the five individuals were shot."

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

A total of 51 people, including eight who died, were shot over the weekend, ABC reported.
