Gibbs was driving a Nissan sedan southbound around 8:45 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Lake Shore Drive when his vehicle was struck by a Chevrolet sedan, causing the Nissan to hit a tree, according to police. Gibbs and Colon, a passenger in the Nissan, were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were both pronounced dead, police said.
The crash also left two 21-year-old women in the Nissan in critical condition, according to police, who said a man and woman in the Chevrolet were taken to a hospital in fair condition.
