Charlottesville Violence: Anti-White Supremacist Protesters March On Chicago (VIDEO)

UPDATED: Hundreds turned out for 2 demonstrations that met at Trump Tower on Sunday.

CHICAGO, IL — An anti-white supremacist rally and march were held Sunday in Chicago as a response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, during a "Unite the Right" rally by white nationalists to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee on Saturday. US Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-9th District) was one of the speakers at the event, which was organized by the political action group Refuse Fascism.

"Donald Trump's rhetoric has emboldened people like David Duke, who said in the crowd yesterday, 'We are fullfilling the promise of Donald Trump. Trump said he would take our country back, and that's what he's doing, and that's why people voted for him,' " the congresswoman said at the rally, eliciting boos from the crowd. "This is the head formerly of the KKK, David Duke, basically thanking Donald Trump for what happened yesterday at Charlottesville. It is pathetic."

The rally began at about 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, in Millennium Park, and hundreds of protesters marched through the Loop to Trump Tower and International Hotel. The demonstrators joined up with a second, large group of protesters who also marched to President Donald Trump's building. The president has been criticized for not singling out and condemning the actions of hateful rhetoric of white nationalists in Charlottesville after a car plowed into counter-protesters Saturday, killing a woman crossing the street and injuring others.
