Bricks Bust Ald. Lopez's Window, Nearby Garage Set On Fire
Ald. Ray Lopez blamed "gang bangers" for "brazen front-door assault" on his house, and setting nearby garage on fire.

CHICAGO — Ald. Ray Lopez awoke early Thursday to the sound of bricks crashing through the front windows of his home.
The 15th Ward boss blamed "gang bangers" for the "brazen front-door" attack on Twitter.
"Gang bangers thing they can intimidate me & my family b/c I want my residents to be free of their tyranny. This attack only strengthens my resolve to rid our communities of these urban terrorists. #Enough," Lopez wrote.

Lopez posted a two videos on Twitter showing a person walk up to Lopez' front door to throw a brick through the window, and make three more attempts to smash the alderman's windows from the sidewalk.

Police said officers found two bricks had crashed through Lopez's living room window at 1:18 a.m. Thursday. About an hour later, a neighbor's garage was set on fire, authorities said. No one is in custody and there were no reported injuries. Detectives are investigating, a police spokesperson said.

Lopez told the Sun-Times he had a confrontation with gang members hours before his house was attacked on Wednesday.
