Chicago A Great City For Active Lifestyles: Study
More than 92 percent of Americans fail their fitness-related resolutions, but those of us in Illinois might have an advantage.

ILLINOIS — New year, new you? While weight loss and getting fit are among the most popular New Year's resolutions, as many as 92 percent of people who make diet- and workout-related pledges don't stick to them, according to one study. But here in Chicagoland, we may have an advantage. According to an analysis by WalletHub, Chicago is the No. 2 city for an active lifestyle, coming in just behind Honolulu, if you can believe it.
With New Year's self-improvement goals in mind, WalletHub compared the 100 biggest U.S. cities "based on 38 key indicators of an active lifestyle," including average monthly fitness club fees to bike scores to each city's share of physically inactive adults.

Chicago came in at No. 2 overall when it comes to its sports and outdoors ranking and No. 56 for budget and participation.
Despite our winter cold, Chicago also tied with six other cities for having the most swimming pools per capita as well as the most basketball hoops per capita. The city ranked at No. 2 (also behind Honolulu) for having the most tennis courts, and tied with New York for No. 1 when it comes to most playgrounds.

- Hialeah, Florida
- North Las Vegas, Nevada

- Irving, Texas

- Memphis, Tennessee
