CHICAGO — The family of Renee Good continues to call for peace not just in Minneapolis, where the 37-year-old mother was fatally shot one week ago during a federal immigration operation, but across the country. Rommanucci & Blandin announced Wednesday it is representing Good's family with a civil investigation underway by the Chicago-based law firm.

Rommanucci & Blandin, along with lawyers in Minnesota, is specifically representing Good's partner, Becca Good, her parents, Tim and Donna Ganger, and her four siblings.

"People in Minneapolis and across this country truly, truly care about what happened to Renee Good on January 7, 2026, and are committed to understanding how she could have been killed on the street after dropping her child off at school," said Antonio M. Romanucci, founding partner of Rommanucci & Blandin. "They want to know what could and should have been done to let Renee live and pick her child up safely from school that afternoon."

In a case that has gripped the nation, Good, a U.S. citizen and mother of three, was shot and killed by an ICE agent in her car after reportedly dropping off one of her kids at school. Federal officials have said the ICE agent fired in self-defense, claiming Good attempted to strike officers with her vehicle. City leaders and witnesses called the shooting an act of murder.

Good's death has sparked outrage and an outpouring of support to her family. A GoFundMe had been created to support her 6-year-old child and partner. It was shut down after raising nearly $1.5 million of a $50,000 goal.

"We want to thank everyone who has reached out in support of Renee and our family. The kind of unending care we’ve been given during this time is exactly the kind that she gave to everyone," Good's family said in a statement released by Rommanucci & Blandin. "Nae was the beautiful light of our family and brought joy to anyone she met. She was relentlessly hopeful and optimistic, which was contagious. We all already miss her more than words could ever express."

Saying "transparency is essential in this case of national importance," Romanucci & Blandin intends to share information learned in the investigation "on a rolling basis." The civil litigation team added that the process for filing a civil lawsuit for this case is atypical of ones conducted by cities and states to hold their police departments accountable, as the activities of federal agents require "a different legal course of action."

Since Good's death, hundreds of protests and vigils have been held in her honor across the country. Her family is hoping to keep her memory alive, while also restoring peace in communities nationwide.

"She was our best friend with a seemingly infinite capacity for love," the family said in the statement. "Nae-Nae gave everything she had to take care of her friends and family, and indeed people she never met."
