Man Upset Over Not Being Invited To Thanksgiving Shoots Host: Report

A 44-year-old man was shot early Thursday by a man who was upset over not being invited to the holiday gathering, a report said.

CHICAGO — A 44-year-old man was shot early on Thanksgiving morning on Chicago’s South Side after witnesses said another man was upset over not being invited to Thanksgiving dinner, according to police and a published report.

Chicago Police said that the shooting took place at 3:51 a.m. on Thursday in the 6700 block of South Eberhart in the city’s Woodlawn neighborhood. The victim was shot by a known male suspect, police said. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center with gunshot wounds to the left leg and hand, police said.

Police said the shooter is the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s sister, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Police said he was upset about not being invited to Thanksgiving dinner, which was being hosted by the man who was shot, the newspaper reported.

Police said that no one is in custody.

A half an hour after the first shooting and just a few blocks away, Chicago Police said that a 72-year-old man was standing in an alley at 4:21 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Eberhart when he heard gunshots and suddenly felt pain in his left elbow. Police said that the man was transported to University of Chicago Medical Center with gunshot wounds to the same elbow.

No one is in custody in that shooting, police said. Both incidents remain under investigation.
