CHICAGO — Two hours after saying a man wanted in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in a confrontation with officers, Chicago police clarified that it was actually the suspect's brother who was fatally shot. Police said officers were trying to make an arrest in the May 14 slaying in the 8100 block of South Chappel Avenue just after 1:45 p.m. Tuesday when they encountered the suspect's brother in a vehicle.

Police say the brother, later identified as Curtis Stagger, 21, produced a handgun and was shot and taken to University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.

Tuesday's shooting, which occurred half a block from a grade school, according to the Chicago Tribune, is under investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department. Police said the officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a 30-day period.
