CHICAGO — The Chicago Sky, who captured the city’s first professional sports championship in six years with a WNBA title last season, will ring in the new year with a celebratory pregame ceremony in May at Wintrust Arena, the team has announced.

The Sky captured their first league crown with a 4-1 championship series against the Phoenix Mercury. The team will commemorate the title with a ring and banner ceremony prior to its May 24 game against the Indiana Fever.

After players and coaches receive their championship rings, the team will unveil a championship banner that will be displayed in the rafters at Wintrust Arena, which became a hotbed of fan activity during last season’s postseason run.

“This ceremony and banner unveil for Chicago’s run to the championship represents a bridge that connects 2021 and 2022 for us,” Sky coach and general manager James Wade said in a news release on Wednesday. “Momentum is about confidence — and now, if there are times when we lack confidence, the only thing we have to do is look up.”

Single-game tickets for the Sky go on sale at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the Wintrust Arena ticket office. Lower-level seating begins at $44, the team said.

Season ticket memberships, suites, and group sales are also available as the Sky begin their defense of the league championship. The Sky has returned the core of its championship roster and will enter the season as one of the WNBA’s top contenders for the title.

“It’s going to be a truly unbelievable year for Skytown,” Anthony Whaley, the Sky’s vice president of ticket sales said in a news release. “We can’t wait to be reunited with our fans for such a historic celebration as they join us on the quest to become back-to-back WNBA champions. We know what it feels like to have Wintrust Arena sold out and jumpin’ and there is nothing like it.”
