Factory Roof Collapses In 3-Alarm Fire That Hurts Chicago Firefighter
More than 100 firefighters responded to the fire Thursday morning on the Northwest Side.

CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago firefighter was hurt battling a three-alarm blaze that destroyed a factory on the Northwest Side Friday morning, according to reports. The firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital with a minor back injury, but no one else was hurt in the fire, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The blaze broke out at about 4 a.m. Friday, July 28, at Horizon Metals in the 3900 block of North Pulaski Road in the Irving Park neighborhood, according to the Chicago Tribune. By 5 a.m., a third alarm had been called on the fire, and more than 100 firefighters responded, the Sun-Times reports. The factory's roof collapsed after a propane tank inside exploded, according to the Tribune. Firefighters encountered trouble extinguishing the fire because of issues with hydrants at the scene, and hoses needed to be strung through a next-door house, the Sun-Times reports. The fire eventually was brought under control between 5:30 and 6:45 a.m.
