Holy Name Cathedral Missing As Much As $100K In Donations: Cops
Chicago police are investigating a possible theft at the church.

CHICAGO, IL — Officials at Holy Name Cathedral and Chicago police investigators are looking into a theft of as much as $100,000 in donations from its collection. The possible theft was discovered while church officials were checking "a shortfall in the offertory collections, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Chicago police were contacted by the church Friday after video footage showed two men had been in unauthorized parts of the cathedral on various nights this month and last month, the report stated. Although no one has been apprehended, detectives have identified multiple suspects, the report added.
Investigators believe those suspects worked for the cathedral's security firm, Monterrey Security, the report stated. The firm was notified by detectives Wednesday about the ongoing investigation, the report added.

Monterrey told the Tribune that one of its guards who worked at the cathedral let in a former guard to an area by the safe that houses the collection money. That employee has since been fired, the report added.
Church officials began to suspect that something was amiss with the collections when weekly donations were not meeting projections, the report stated. Shortfalls in April have ranged between $15 to $5,000, the report added.
