Normally, you have to go to McDonald’s to order food from its drive-thru, but for one Glenview, Illinois, family, the drive-thru came to them. Thanks to their 6-year-old son, Tommy, who used the family’s Ring Video Doorbell to create a virtual drive-thru at their front door, they got to enjoy a side of laughter with their Happy Meals.
“Tommy is very creative,” says his mother, Elizabeth. “Almost every day there is a different costume or theme,” she adds. “And we try to accommodate his request for costumes and props when possible.”

“Tommy wanted to create a drive-thru McDonald’s and wait on our family,” she explains. “He had the great idea to use the Ring as his ordering speaker.” And thanks to the Ring Protect subscription, they were able to save the video and spread the fun on social media. “I Ioved it because it would record it for us to share with family or on Instagram,” Elizabeth says.

As Tommy’s sister, Cate, and their nanny, Kathy, approach the door in the video, you can hear them exchange greetings with Tommy and ask for a moment to “look at the menu.” After a brief pause, they place their orders with Tommy, who — in a very professional manner — asks them a few clarifying questions before leaving them with an adorable, “See you at the window!”
Though Tommy wasn't able to whip up the order himself, his mom had him covered. “We went to McDonald’s and brought the food home,” Elizabeth recalls. “Everyone got their orders, including a Happy Meal for his sister, Cate!”
Tommy had used the family’s Ring Video Doorbell before to talk to his parents when they weren't home, but according to his mom, this was the first time he used it for fun. “I imagine it will not be the last time we use the Ring for creative play,” she says.
And while Elizabeth says she appreciates how her Ring Video Doorbell "assists in keeping us all safe," she enjoys how it “captures love and happy memories as well!"
