Illinois Commuters Spend More Time on Road Than Nearly All Other Americans
Illinois commuters put in plenty of time just getting to work, just so they can to put in more time once they get there.

CHICAGO, IL — Illinois commuters put in more time just getting to their jobs than almost all other American workers.
The average Illinois commute is nearly a half hour each way, a full 28.8 minutes, according to new U.S. Census survey estimates.
Indiana’s average commute is a full five and a half minutes less than Illinois’ and Iowa’s comes in at 19 minutes.

Illinois has the seventh worst commute time out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. With all that time sitting around behind the wheel, or stuck on a train or bus, no wonder there’s so many fat people around these days.
New York, Maryland and New Jersey had the three longest average commutes. Montana and the Dakotas were the shortest.

The average Illinois commute was actually up 12 seconds from the year before.
The national average was 26.4 minutes.
