Illinois Quick Hits: Nurses Ratify New Contract; Housekeepers Picket Over Pets

The Illinois Nurses Association announced a contract agreement with the state of Illinois. The four-year contract was ratified on Oct. 26.

The Illinois Nurses Association has announced a contract agreement with the state of Illinois. The four-year contract was ratified on Oct. 26 with a 97% vote. The contract includes pay increases totaling nearly 23% over the four-year term, and there will be $2,200 in bonuses throughout the life of the contract. INA members are now eligible for 12 weeks of parental leave for both birthing and non-birthing parents.

Housekeepers picket over pets

Housekeeping workers at a downtown Chicago hotel walked out over the weekend over the facility’s pet policy. Housekeepers at the Hilton Garden Inn are demanding that management alert housekeepers at the beginning of their shift if there is a pet staying in the room they are assigned to clean because of the extra work involved. Workers picketed in front of the hotel Sunday morning.

Plane lands on roadway

A small plane had to make an emergency landing on a northern Illinois road Monday. A police officer in Cary said he noticed a plane flying at low altitude with the propeller not rotating. The plane then touched down on Cary-Algonquin Road successfully. The 26-year-old female flight instructor and 21-year-old female flight student were not hurt. Traffic was blocked in the area for about 90 minutes until the plane was removed.
