Labor Day 2017: What's Open And Closed In Chicago

Find out how Monday's federal holiday will affect city agencies, institutions and services.

CHICAGO, IL — Over the years, Labor Day has become one of those American holidays that has accumulated its share of official and unofficial roles. Officially, the first Monday in September honors the U.S. workforce. Unofficially, the day marks the end of the summer and the wearing of white for non-brides and anyone who thinks forward-thinking has no place in the fashion world.

Another official part of Labor Day is that, as a federal holiday, it means many people will have the day off, and a variety of places will be closed. Here's a look at how Labor Day will affect institutions and services around Chicago:

Schools: No classes for Chicago Public Schools, which starts the 2017-18 school year Tuesday.
