Lollapalooza 2017: 60 Stolen Cellphones Recovered, Accused Thief Arrested By Chicago Cops

Police arrested 16 people in the first 3 days of the summer music festival. Nearly 190 people also were hurt and taken to area hospitals.

CHICAGO, IL — A man accused of stealing 60 cellphones was one of the 16 people arrested in the first three days of Lollapalooza this year, NBC 5 Chicago reports. Nearly 190 people also were hurt and taken to area hospitals during that time, the report stated. Arrests and injuries for the four-day music festival's final day at Grant Park won't be available from the Office of Emergency Management and Communications until Monday, the report added.

Chicago police recovered the 60 stolen cellphones, and the alleged thief was apprehended Saturday during the festival, the department announced on its Twitter account. Ten people also were cited for trespassing Saturday after they allegedly jumped the fence around the Grant Park festival, NBC 5 reports. In fact, most of the 26 people ticketed through Saturday were accused of jumping the fence and trespassing, the report added. So far, the most arrests were made Friday, with 10 people taken into custody on the festival's second day for charges ranging from drug possession to aggravated battery to a police officer, the report stated. The fewest arrests were made Thursday — Lollapalooza's opening day, which ended early because of the threat of severe weather — with police apprehending only two people, the report added. The first day, however, did have 72 people taken to hospitals, the most transported in the first three days, according to the report.

This year marks the second year of Lollapalooza running for four days. In its inaugural year in that format, police arrested 12 people during the entire event, NBC 5 reports. In 2015, 34 people were arrested over the festival's entire three-day span, the report added.
