Man Stole $1,200 From Iconic Department Store —​ Including A Single Beer: Police

In addition to jewelry, gift sets and a comforter, he took a beer from a cooler, police said.

CHICAGO — A man is charged with felony theft after he tried to steal $1,200 worth of items — including a single can of beer — from an iconic downtown Chicago department store, police said.

Jeffery Lowery, 33, of Chicago, was charged with felony theft and misdemeanor resisting an officer, and was ordered released from custody Monday, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers responded around 5:30 p.m. Sunday to the Macy’s on State Street, where Lowery was recorded on security footage taking jewelry, gift sets, a comforter and a can of beer from a cooler, before trying to leave the store, police said.

Loss prevention workers attempted to detain him, but he refused their commands, and Cook County officers took Lowery, who continued to resist arrest, to the ground and into custody, according to police.
