One Weed Dispensary Burglarized, Others Sold Out Monday
From a burglary to a recreational marijuana shortage, here's what's happening when it comes to legal weed in Illinois.
CHICAGO, IL — A marijuana dispensary on Chicago's Northwest side was burglarized Monday morning, according to police. It happened around 8 a.m. at MOCA Modern Cannabis in the 2800 block of West Fullerton Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood.
The burglary came as multiple Illinois dispensaries — including MOCA — planned to be closed for recreational sale Monday due to high demand.
Burglars broke into the dispensary through a side door and stole an undisclosed amount of money, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The dispensary was reportedly one of several closed for recreational marijuana sales Monday and was expected to open for medical marijuana sales at 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, Midway Dispensary, located in Chicago's Garfield Ridge neighborhood, announced Saturday that all recreational sales would be suspended while it restocked and focused on serving its medical cannabis customers. "We will update y'all when we have more herb. Feel free to visit," the dispensary said.
Sunnyside Dispensary, which has locations in Lakeview, Elmwood Park, Rockford and Champaign, announced Monday it was giving employees a "well-deserved rest and will be closed for both medical and adult-use sales." The dispensaries will reopen — fully stocked, Sunnyside said — at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
