CHICAGO — Chicago Police have taken suspects into custody after Northwestern University’s Chicago campus reported an active shooter on Monday night.

Just before 9 p.m., Northwestern posted an alert to students that there was an active threat at the school’s Streeterville campus. The alert instructed students to “run, hide, fight” and to lock and/or barricade their doors and await further information.

At 9:07 p.m., school officials reported that Chicago Police had responded to the reports of shots being fired outside of Wieboldt Hall, which is located on Chicago Avenue, and instructed students to await further notification.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., the school said that the area had been secured and that students had the all-clear to return to normal activities. The school said that assailants had been taken into custody but that it was unknown if anyone was injured.

Chicago Police that witnesses told police that there was a melee that had started in the street in the 300 block of Chicago Avenue and that a woman had taken out a gun and fired a shot. Police said that there was no active threat to the area when they arrived.

No one was injured in the incident, police said, and the matter remains under investigation. Anyone with information that could help authorities in their investigation is asked to contact Chicago Police Department Area Three Detectives at (312) 744-8263.
