Update: Tornado Watch Issued

A tornado watch was issued for western and northwest Illinois.

ROCKFORD, IL — NOAA and the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for extreme western and northwest Illinois.

A warning was also issued for central and eastern Iowa.

The warning was to last through Monday evening.

The National Weather Service had anticipated issuing a warning for the Rockford area. Severe weather was predicted to the west and northwest of Rockford. The National Weather Service said scattered large hail and isolated tornadoes were possible.

To the east, including Rockford, Dixon, Belvidere and the far northwest Chicago suburbs, an "isolated strong to marginally severe storm or two cannot be ruled out this evening, with the main threat isolated large hail," the National Weather Service said Monday afternoon.
