Want Wrigley Field Ivy? $200 Will Get You A Leaf

The Chicago Cubs are selling 2,016 pieces of last year's outfield vegetation to fans. Would you pay for a leaf?

CHICAGO, IL — If you thought the Chicago Cubs had run out of ideas to monetize their historic World Series win last year, you're sorely mistaken. The team has come up with another way to commemorate ending its 108-year title drought: It's selling the ivy from Wrigley Field.

In an email sent Tuesday to premier clients and season-ticket holders, the Cubs began offering ivy leaves that lined the outfield wall of the Friendly Confines in 2016, according to ESPN.com. Normally, those leaves are tossed out once they turn red and drop from the vines. But a forward-thinking team official came up with the idea of collecting the much-coveted leaves and attaching holograms as a way to authenticate them, the report added. Only 2,016 leaves are being offered at $200 a pop (plus $15 shipping), and customers can order as many as 10, the report stated. No details were given about when the leaves would go on sale and if they would be available to all fans or just those who received the email.
