Woman Killed By Train While Retrieving Cell Phone From Tracks

The 37-year-old woman was hit by a Red Line train when she jumped onto the tracks to get her phone, authorities said.

CHICAGO — A 37-year-old woman was struck and killed by a train Thursday after she jumped down onto the tracks to retrieve the cellphone she'd dropped, police told media outlets. The woman, later identified as Felon Smith, was at the 69th and State Street station when she dropped her cell phone onto the tracks and attempted to retrieve it, NBC Chicago reported.

Police said Smith was struck by an approaching northbound Red Line train at around 12:40 p.m.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
