2019 Elections: Gonzalez Wins 3rd Term For Chicago Heights Mayor
It was a bitter battle for Chicago Heights mayor and alderman seats, but in the end, David Gonzalez is set for his third term as mayor.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — David Gonzalez swept the Chicago Heights mayoral race to secure his third term leading the city, and newcomer George Brassea upset a longtime incumbent in the 5th alderman race.
Gonzalez defeated Arthur Wiggins, Jr., who ran on a promise to clean up Chicago Heights politics.
Gonzalez did not return calls for comment and did not release a statement.

However, Wiggins said he is still committed to holding city leaders accountable.
"I am still committed to facilitate growth while holding the administration accountable, I took on a job that I often said I want to rebuild Chicago Heights, I have dedication to see the rebuild from start to completion," Wiggins said as he conceded. "The preliminary vote count shows that I have been defeated by the incumbent. The commitment of those I met in person and through online polls show these results to be incredulous. I do not believe we are done here."

In the hot race for 5th Ward Alderman, first-time candidate George Brassea ousted incumbent Richard Amadio. In the 7th Ward, Kelli Merrick takes the seat held by Sylvia Torres.
