CHSD170’s Washington-McKinley School’s Math & Reading Night Sparkles
La Noche de Matemáticas y Lectura de la Escuela Washington-McKinley de CHSD170 brilla
CHSD170’s Washington-McKinley School recently hosted a Pizzeria-themed Reading & Math Night filled with fun, learning, and plenty of pizza! The evening was a huge success!
The evening began with a special read-aloud by Instructional Coach Amy Hein, who brought the book Pete the Cat’s Perfect Pizza Party to life. Students laughed, listened, and got into the groove of Pete’s silly pizza adventure.
After the story, students made their way through interactive stations that made Reading and Math exciting and replete with hands-on activities. The students played Math games with a pizza menu, sorted slices of pizza by vowel sounds, and unscrambled pizza words—all while having a blast!

“It’s a night we look forward to,” Lead ESL Teacher Kathy Haywood shared. “So many parents and kids come to the event. It’s such a great way to bring our school community together.”
Math teacher Ashlee Walik added, “This is a fun way to celebrate learning; the turnout for this event was amazing!”

Parents enjoyed the night just as much as the students, with one parent exclaiming, “Our family had such a great time.”
Every student received a free book from Bernie’s Book Giveaway, a local initiative that promotes literacy and a love for reading among children. And, of course, no pizza night would be complete without grabbing a slice to go.
The evening was a perfect blend of smiles, learning, and community spirit, and Washington-McKinley School is already looking forward to serving it up again next year!

La escuela Washington-McKinley de CHSD170 organizó recientemente una noche de lectura y matemáticas con temática de pizzería llena de diversión, aprendizaje y mucha pizza.
¡La noche fue un gran éxito!La noche comenzó con una lectura especial en voz alta de la entrenadora de instrucción Amy Hein, quien dio vida al libro Pete the Cat's Perfect Pizza Party. Los estudiantes se rieron, escucharon y se metieron en el ritmo de la tonta aventura de pizza de Pete.
Después de la historia, los estudiantes se abrieron paso a través de estaciones interactivas que hicieron que la lectura y las matemáticas fueran emocionantes y estuvieran repletas de actividades prácticas. Los estudiantes jugaron juegos de matemáticas con un menú de pizza, clasificaron rebanadas de pizza por sonidos vocálicos y palabras de pizza sin codificar, ¡todo mientras se divertían!
"Es una noche que esperamos con ansias", compartió la maestra principal de ESL, Kathy Haywood. "Muchos padres e hijos vienen al evento. Es una excelente manera de unir a nuestra comunidad escolar".
La maestra de matemáticas Ashlee Walik agregó: "Esta es una forma divertida de celebrar el aprendizaje; ¡La asistencia a este evento fue increíble!"
