Coronavirus Cases Slightly Increase In Chicago Heights: CCDPH

More than half of the city has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, the Cook County Department of Public Health reports.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — COVID-19 cases around the world have fluctuated over the past year. Here in Chicago Heights, cases have slightly increased, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.

The health department's latest statistics on the virus show that 52 cases have been recorded in the city within this past week. According to the department, the percent change in confirmed cases in past 14 days is two percent in Chicago Heights. Since the start of the pandemic, the city has had a total of 4,436 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the department reports.

Less than half of the city has been inoculated with both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the health department, 15,254, or 50 percent of Chicago Heights residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine. People who are fully vaccinated with two doses include 11,737 or nearly 39 percent of Chicago Heights residents. Over 29 thousand people live in Chicago Heights, Census data shows.

Cook County in general has a 2.9 percent positivity rate. Since the start of the pandemic, 279,120 Cook County residents have tested positive for the virus, and 4,680 have died. The department reports that the county currently has a high community transmission level.
