HAMMOND, IN — A couple from Northwest Indiana say they won’t return to what was once their favorite Starbucks location after they found the message “have an ‘ICE’ day!” written on their cold brew cup, WGN reported.

Bianca and Emmanuel Madrigal went Saturday to the coffee shop in the 7800 block of Indianapolis Boulevard in Hammond, picked up their drinks and saw the message once back in their car, according to WGN.

Bianca told the outlet their first thought was that the message was about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s presence locally, and added that her husband, who is Mexican, was angered by what was written on the cup.

“We’ve asked our baristas at that store to stick to more traditional, less easy to misunderstand messages moving forward,” Starbucks told WGN in a statement about the situation. “This was a misunderstanding; however, we know that it still made the customer feel unwelcome, and we’re working directly with them to make it right.”
