Roosevelt School Hosts Mother/Son Craft & Snack Night

The F.A.M.E. (Financial Planning, Advertisement, Marketing, Earnings) Club at Chicago Heights School District 170’s Roosevelt School, a group of dedicated students, was pivotal in organizing and hosting a recent Mother/Son Craft and Snack Night in the school’s gym.

The evening brought together more than 70 boys and their moms for an evening filled with laughter, creativity, and connection. The event allowed families to spend quality time together while making a craft and enjoying delicious snacks.

Emilio Gallardo, a fourth-grade student and F.A.M.E. member, explained the essence of the event, saying, “Being able to come to school to make a craft with my mom and hang out with snacks was great fun. I really enjoyed working on this event in FAME and seeing it come together so well!”

Thanks to the dedication of the Roosevelt staff, including fourth-grade teacher Ann Phillips and Paraprofessional Clair McCormick, who ran the snack stand with smiles and energy, the event ran smoothly and successfully.

“We had another great event here at Roosevelt, Craft & Snack,” Phillips said. “FAME transformed the gym again. Having moms and their sons coming together to make a fun craft and to have some snacks. It was so nice to witness all the smiles.”

Several staff members stayed after school to help make the event memorable, showcasing the strong community spirit prevalent at Roosevelt School. This sense of togetherness was palpable throughout the evening, making it a truly special event.

“Once again, the gymnasium was transformed into a beautiful hall to see the smiles of students and parents,” fifth-grade DL teacher Ana Ayala noted. “I really enjoy having a great team of students, parents, and teachers who go above and beyond to make these experiences.”

“A touching moment came when school custodians, Croccifixio Villagomez and Christian Hill stepped in to spend time with a student whose mom arrived a bit late, showing the care and community that define Roosevelt,” added Roosevelt Assistant Principal Jennifer Rodriguez.

The Roosevelt School family expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the generous support of UnBellievable Events, a family-owned business run by the Bell Family. The family donated its time, products, and services to transform the school gymnasium into a magical space and was instrumental in making the event a tremendous success.

“I liked making the craft, taking pictures with my mom, and being able to spend one-on-one time with her,” said Emiliano Ramos, a fifth-grade student and F.A.M.E. member.

The school looks forward to hosting more memorable experiences and hopes to see even more families join F.A.M.E., the Roosevelt staff, and UnBellievable Events in creating an unforgettable experience for families to treasure.

“It was heartwarming to see the interactions between the mothers and sons, as well as the connections among community members who were also in attendance with their sons,” said third-grade teacher Gina Sefcik.

Parent Yenny Gallardo praised the event, saying, “I had a great time with my sons at the Craft and Snack. The decorations were so cute, and the crafting activity was lovely.”

“I enjoyed seeing the students actively participating and taking charge while selling the snacks. It is a great way to help boost confidence that can be carried into 'real life' as they grow older. I hope F.A.M.E. will continue bringing student-led activities like these next year!”

El Club F.A.M.E. (Planificación Financiera, Publicidad, Marketing, Ganancias) de la Escuela Roosevelt del Distrito Escolar 170 de Chicago Heights, un grupo de estudiantes dedicados, fue fundamental en la organización y celebración de una reciente Noche de Manualidades y Refrigerios para Madres e Hijos en el gimnasio de la escuela.

La velada reunió a más de 70 niños y sus mamás en una velada llena de risas, creatividad y conexión. El evento permitió a las familias pasar tiempo de calidad juntas mientras hacían una manualidad y disfrutaban de deliciosos refrigerios.

Emilio Gallardo, estudiante de cuarto grado y miembro de F.A.M.E., explicó la esencia del evento: "Poder venir a la escuela a hacer una manualidad con mi mamá y pasar un rato con refrigerios fue muy divertido. ¡Disfruté mucho trabajando en este evento en F.A.M.E. y viendo que todo salía tan bien!"

Gracias a la dedicación del personal de Roosevelt, incluyendo a la maestra de cuarto grado Ann Phillips y a la paraprofesional Clair McCormick, quien atendió el puesto de refrigerios con sonrisas y energía, el evento se desarrolló sin contratiempos y con éxito.

“Tuvimos otro gran evento aquí en Roosevelt, Craft & Snack”, dijo Phillips. “FAME transformó el gimnasio una vez más. Madres y sus hijos se reunieron para hacer una manualidad divertida y disfrutar de una merienda. Fue muy grato presenciar todas las sonrisas”.

Varios miembros del personal se quedaron después de clases para ayudar a que el evento fuera memorable, mostrando el fuerte espíritu comunitario que prevalece en la Escuela Roosevelt. Este sentimiento de unión se sintió durante toda la noche, convirtiéndolo en un evento verdaderamente especial.

“Una vez más, el gimnasio se transformó en un hermoso salón para ver las sonrisas de los estudiantes y los padres”, comentó Ana Ayala, maestra de Lengua y Literatura Alternas de quinto grado. “Disfruto mucho tener un gran equipo de estudiantes, padres y maestros que se esfuerzan al máximo para que estas experiencias sean posibles”.

“Un momento conmovedor se produjo cuando los conserjes de la escuela, Croccifixio Villagomez y Christian Hill, se acercaron para pasar tiempo con una estudiante cuya madre llegó un poco tarde, demostrando el cariño y el sentido de comunidad que definen a Roosevelt”, añadió la subdirectora de Roosevelt, Jennifer Rodríguez.

La familia de la Escuela Roosevelt expresó su sincera gratitud por el generoso apoyo de UnBellievable Events, una empresa familiar dirigida por la familia Bell. La familia donó su tiempo, productos y servicios para transformar el gimnasio de la escuela en un espacio mágico y fue fundamental para que el evento fuera un éxito rotundo.

“Fue reconfortante ver las interacciones entre madres e hijos, así como las conexiones entre los miembros de la comunidad que también estuvieron presentes con sus hijos”, dijo la maestra de tercer grado Gina Sefcik.

La madre Yenny Gallardo elogió el evento: "Lo pasé genial con mis hijos en la actividad de Manualidades y Meriendas. Las decoraciones eran preciosas y la actividad de manualidades fue encantadora".

"Disfruté viendo a los estudiantes participar activamente y tomar las riendas mientras vendían las meriendas.
