At Crete Public Library, we encourage EVERYONE to read for pleasure during the summer and to enjoy the many activities we have to offer you! For 2024, our Summer Reading slogan is "All Hands on Deck." This pirate-themed program is for all ages and runs from June 1–July 27.
To add to the fun of reading, the program includes incentive prizes to earn. As a bonus, each time you check out materials in person, you will receive an entry for a gift basket drawing sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Learn more about Summer Reading at cretelibrary.org/summerreading
On Thursday, June 6 from 6-8 pm, our Summer Reading Kickoff Party will feature a Pirate Night Market in the new Heideman Pavilion outside the Library. This family-friendly event will include a treasure dig, a magician, face painting, a petting zoo, lawn games, and more for the kids. Complementary ice cream will be offered courtesy of the Library and popcorn will be provided by Old Plank Trail Bank. No RSVP is required. Please note: the Library will close at 5 pm on June 6 for regular library services. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.

Adults can get in on the pirate action with two programs just for them: the History of Real Pirates (June 12) and a Pirate Murder Mystery Game (June 17). Kids will have fun with a wide variety of pirate-themed programs this summer including Pirate Tales: The Adventure of a Lifetime (June 12), Tommy Tew's Theater Crew (June 13, 20, 27), Treasure Island (July 17), and Sea Shanty Night (July 25) .
