Woman Hit by Car in Food 4 Less Parking Lot: Police

Hit by a Thunderbird

An 18-year-old Sauk Village woman told police she was walking through the parking lot of Food 4 Less on Western Avenue when she heard screeching tires and was hit by a blue Ford Thunderbird. The woman fell to the ground but saw the driver, who she recognized as her 23-year-old cousin. Chicago Heights Fire Department personnel was at the scene but the woman refused medical attention. Police also noted the woman was uncooperative and would not give any further information about the woman that hit her, according to the report.

Drinking in Public

Henry T. Beach, 44, of the 1000 block of Lexington Court in Ford Heights, was arrested and charged with drinking and public after police saw him drinking alcohol at the bus stop near the intersection of 14th Street and Center Avenue, according to the report. Police noted they were in a marked squad car when they approached Beach.

Hazardous Material

Chicago Heights Fire Department officials told police a "hazardous material" was leaking from a tanker train car in the 200 block of East 17th Street. Union Pacific's hazardous materials team was notified about the leak, according to the report.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 10

Burning Skyline

Police and fire personnel responded to a house fire call in the first block of East 23rd Street to find the back porch of the residence in flames. Firefighters contained the fire to the back porch and put it out, later noting that the fire was started when an "unknown accelerant" was thrown on the outside of the house, according to the report. When police arrived to the house fire they noticed a Skyline garbage can in the alley behind the house fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished that fire as well, but the can was completely destroyed, police said. 

Don't Touch my Beer

Mary A. Blakemore, 53, of the 1100 block of Claude Court, was arrested and charged with domestic battery after her pregnant daughter told police Blakemore kicked her in the stomach for attempting to pour out the beer Blakemore had been drinking. The daughter refused medical attention, according to the report.
