Brush Fire — Fueled By Strong Winds — Burns Through 15 Acres In McHenry County: Authorities

Fire crews first responded to the fire at about 2:35 p.m. on Sunday in the 1100 block of South Crystal Lake Road.

MCHENRY, IL — A brush fire burned through 15 acres of land on Sunday afternoon near McHenry, fire officials said.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to the blaze in the 1100 block of South Crystal Lake Road in McHenry at about 2:35 p.m., according to a news release from the fire protection district. When fire crews arrived, they found the blaze behind a home and barn.

Due to strong winds, additional fire departments with woodland firefighting crews and equipment were called to the scene, and it took firefighters 1.5 hours to get the blaze under control.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
