Coroner IDs Man, 37, Fatally Crushed By Vehicle

The fatal workplace incident happened early Tuesday at a business in Wauconda.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified a 37-year-old man who died after being crushed by a vehicle that fell on him early Tuesday, according to the coroner's office.

Matthew Pfister, of North Chicago, died from blunt force injuries as a result of the incident that happened at about 8:50 a.m. Tuesday at 398 W. Liberty Street, Suite D, in Wauconda, according to a news release from the Wauconda Police Department.

Pfister was underneath a vehicle, which was elevated roughly five feet off the ground on a lift when the rear of the vehicle came off of the lift, police said. The vehicle fell on top of him and trapped the man underneath.

"He was an employee of the business and had been working for them for about 7 to 8 years," Heather Cognac, the public information officer for the Wauconda Police Department, told Patch.

Wauconda Fire personnel lifted the vehicle and were able to get Pfister out from under the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
