CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — D1 Training, which lauds itself as a "itness enrichment concept utilizing the five core tenets of athletic-based training," will be opening a new location soon in Crystal Lake.

The gym will open at 6107 Northwest Hwy, Suite D, on December 15. The new group fitness facility is meant to employ a sports-science backed training regimen led by certified trainers to help people of all ages achieve their sport and fitness goals, according to a news release.

The new Crystal Lake location is owned and operated by local entrepreneur and longtime sports enthusiast Dan Mourning. After building a career in enterprise software, Mourning reached a point where he was ready to pursue a lifelong dream — owning a business of his own.

That lifelong connection to athletics ultimately led him to D1 Training. Now, he's channeling the same drive he had as a young athlete into building something meaningful for his community.

“Growing up, I fell in love with sports and competition — but we never had anything like D1 Training to help us take our game to the next level,” Mourning said. “Having fun is always the most important part of playing, but sports also taught me lifelong lessons — how to be a good teammate, what it takes to succeed, and win or lose…character matters. With this new location, my goal is to give young athletes the opportunity to grow, reach their goals, and gain the confidence and character that will benefit them far beyond the field.”

D1 Training offers four age-based programs, including rookie for ages 7 to 11 years old; developmental, for ages 12 to 14 years old; prep, for ages 15 to 18 years old; and D1 Adult.

Each fitness program is based "on the five athletic-based tenets: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength program, core and conditioning, and cool down," according to a news release.

Outside of group workouts, D1 Training offers group, semi-private, and one-on-one training with coaches. The goal is simple: to continue to train athletes who are dedicated to their sport or fitness goals, regardless of age, or athletic background.

“Dan is the ideal candidates to bring the D1 Training experience to Crystal Lake,” said Dan Murphy, the brand’s Chief Operating Officer. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to the D1 family and are confident in his ability to show the Crystal Lake area what they’ve been missing out on. D1 is a one-of-a-kind fitness experience that’s built around the individual and meant to help people meet their athletic goals. Our strong network of franchisees embodies our core values to bring the D1 Training vision to life, and we know Dan will do just that in Crystal Lake and its surrounding communities.”

D1 Training has more than 100 performance centers open with over 100 additional locations in various stages of development. For more information on D1 Training Crystal Lake, visit https://www.d1training.com/crystal-lake/ or call (815) 893-2940.
