Authorities say an intoxicated father let his 13-year-old daughter drive his car while he sat in the passenger seat, resulting in her crashing into a mobile home in Wauconda.

Ramiro Mujica-Sandria, 41, of Waukegan, was charged with two counts of child endangerment and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Eryka Jones said Mujica-Sandria reported he was teaching his 13-year-old daughter how to drive on July 19 in Wauconda.

The girl was confused between the gas and brake pedals in the car.

Jones said the child struck a mobile home with the vehicle. The home was unoccupied at the time.

Mujica-Sandria was in the passenger seat and a second child was in the rear passenger seat of the car, Jones said.

Jones said Mujica-Sandria was under the influence with a portable breath test showing a reading of .085.

He has had five prior driving under the influence cases since 2004. His driver’s license is also revoked for driving under the influence, Jones said.

The charges against Mujica-Sandria are non-detainable and he was released from custody after a First Appearance Court hearing.

Lake County Judge James Simonian ordered Mujica-Sandria to have no alcohol or drugs and undergo random testing while on pre-trial release.

The judge said Mujica-Sandria’s alleged actions endangered the two children and others.

Mujica-Sandria is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday for a status of attorney hearing.
